There are creatures in the woods around Mullica.  Most call them the Fair Folk.  Avery Nash knows better: they are all monsters, and she wants nothing to do with them.  But when Avery is captured by the Folk, intent on draining her life for their own dark purposes, she strikes a damning bargain.  Honoring that bargain will keep her and her family safe, but the price might just be her humanity, and the fate of the townspeople of Mullica lies in the balance. To complicate matters is Avery’s captor, the frustrating and devious Captain of the Huntsman, to whom she finds herself in the service of.  As Avery’s entanglement with the Folk and the captain intensifies, whispers of a curse and secrets of the past begin to swirl.  Everywhere she looks, Avery is trapped.  And secrets, much like bargains, come with a cost–especially in the woods.
